This weekend along with my dad I went to my first football game in Spain between Barcelona and Granada, which was quite different from a game in the United States. The game was set to start at nine o’clock pm, but excitement and hype for the game started long before then. On Social Media, people started making predictions who would win and what the score would be. In the city everyone wore football jersey of the team they where rooting for. Vendors on the street sold team merchandise hours before the game started.
Before heading to the stadium in the center of Granada I bought I shirt to wear at the game. Soon after we had to leave as we had to get to the stadium early. From our house we walked down to the main street and waited for a bus to come which would drop us minutes walking from the stadium. As we where walking we saw people all around playing mini games of soccer just waiting for the game to start. When we got to the main street we had no idea what bus to take but crowds of people wearing team jerseys all heading into the same number bus spoke for itself. In the bus people where arguing about the teams very defensive about their favorite team.
We got off at a stop, which was about a five minute walk to the stadium. We for about one minute until we saw the stadium. The first thing I noticed was the amount of people. Thousands of fans walking towards the stadium exited to see their favorite players play. Vendors all around the area selling all kinds of team merchandise to fans. We got to the stadium and pulled out our printed tickets. They scanned our tickets, checked our bags and took the caps off of our plastic water bottles. We officially entered the stadium and started to try to find our seats. We showed our tickets to one of the many security guards and he pointed us in the right direction. We got to our seats and amazed with the great view of the field.
Less than one hour before the game we went to a stand in the stadium selling food. We bought some popcorn and coke and headed back to our seats. Slowly the seats in the stadium started to fill up and within thirty minutes of the game the stadium was full. At that time the players came onto the field to warm up. Fans going wild as their team ran onto the field. The better the player, the louder the cheering. The teams warmed up for about 15 minutes until they headed back into the stadium building to get ready and change into their game clothes.
The lights dimmed, the spotlights swirled around and the players ran out. Everyone cheering as their favorite players ran onto the field to start the game. The referee blew the whistle and the game began. Everyone was exited to watch this game and see who would score the first goal. Within two minutes of the game Granada scored a goal. The Granada fans went wild as their team scored. They danced around, jumped up and down and even through some shade to the Barcelona fans. The rest of the first half of the game Barcelona fans watched inventively to see if their players would score but after 45 minutes Granada stayed ahead. Half way through the game there was the normal break where the players rested and prepared for the second half. After the break the second half started. Barcelona fans still hoping for their team to score but the exact opposite happened. Granada scored another goal putting the score at 2-0 Granada. There was about 15 minutes left of the game and Barcelona fans hoping that their team can pull through and score, but as the time ticked down the chance of them scoring started to go away. The game ended and Granada won. The fans where so happy because this is one of the very few times in history that Granada beat Barcelona. The game was an amazing experience and I hope I can go see another football game soon.
