Twice a year, in October and March, various cities around Spain host a book fair, called “Feria del Libro.” This weekend it came to the city of Granada. The book fair lasts almost one week starting on Wednesday and ending on Sunday. My family and I decided to head there on Saturday.
Saturday came and we were excited to go to the fair. Many people in the city talk about this Book Fair and how big it is. vendors from all over the country come to sell their books. Since we have never gone before we were eager to go and see the selection of books they had. Almost all the books will probably be in Spanish, which is really good for us anyways to learn!
We arrived at the Book Fair and were surprised by the size of it. We saw a ton of stands all lining the sides of the streets. People at each stand browsing through all the books they had to offer. We couldn’t wait any longer and headed to the stand closest to where we were standing.
The first stand we went to had many history and comic books. They had books about the history of Granada and other parts of Spain. One of the the history books there was about the neighborhood of “Albayzin” one of the oldest and most historical parts of Granada. The stand also had original Marvel comic books like Spiderman in Spanish. We were looking for books specifically to learn Spanish so we continued and went to one of the largest stands in the fair.
This stand had the most people at it and the most variety of books. They had everything from cookbooks to sports books to bedtime stories. We looked through the section where they had all the kids books since those books tend to have easy Spanish grammar which is what we were looking for. We found one book called “Los Mejores Porques”, which means, “The Best Why’s (questions).” The book has over 300 questions and a little paragraph which answered the question. This book was good for us because it had a lot of new vocabulary but in an easy to understand way which is exactly what we were looking for. We decided to buy the book.
If you’re ever in Granada I highly recommend stopping by the Book Fair. I look forward to going again in March.
